Linda’s She Shed Dollhouse Miniature

After taking a long break (5 years to be exact) I’m back creating miniatures again. 🙂 Dennis Nordman asked me to build his She Shed Kit which is based off of a real life Garden Shed. I’d been posting pictures of the real life one on Facebook for years whenever I found a new picture of it and was so happy to find out Dennis made a kit based off of it. I will blog step by step of my building it next week. For now, you can enjoy this short video I created on YouTube. This will be for sale this coming Fall. Thank you for stopping by!  ~ Tracy Topps 🌷💗

New OOAK Tudor Custom Dollhouse For Sale

Today, I'm posting about this house that I was able to build. This is a bashed (edited) Primrose Cottage dollhouse. It's now for sale on eBay.

 ðŸŒ·ðŸŒ· It’s SOLD🌷🌷
Here's the description

Birds & Butterflies are little creatures you'll see peeping around this cute little cottage!

Sometimes, I get so excited about a project when it begins to look like what I saw in my minds eye and this house did not disappoint me. It has been electrified so all of the lights and the outlets work and come on when plugged in (Transformer and lead in wire not included in this auction). The outdoor lamp has pretty red flowers in full bloom with a fluttering butterfly stopping by to taste it's nectar. The flower box under the lower window is also full of flowers.

The roof tiles, stones and brick and even the grassy base are all created using creative paperclay. I hand sculpted and then hand painted each and every shingle, stone & brick various colors to create the realistic & fantastical dream cottage you see pictured right here. Many long hours went into creating this house that can be passed down as a family heirloom

I made the Wisteria Vine with delicate flower blooms and realistic leaves with branches just like a real one does. There are over 100 tiny colorful flower petals scattered across the front of the yard.  The herringbone brick walkway also add some extra eye candy & charm to this cozy cottage. The upper outside Dormer window  was hand created by me and has a cute bird perched there taking in the beauty around it. The upper walls has stucco with exposed brick peeping through. This Cottage is extremely Charming!

Moving on to the insides of this cottage, there has been things added to customize and add a touch "charm". The wood floors upstairs were painted white and the lower level floor has a stone pattern that was hand cut by me (not real stone). The walls are stucco and trimmed in white wood and there is 2 hanging light fixtures and 1 outlet on each floor.

This was a fun house for me to build. The dream house is 1" scale and the measurements are 14" W x 19"H x 14 1/2" D (including the yard).  This house is 1" scale (1" = 1' scale). Here's the link to the eBay auction:

Dollhouse Display ~ The Garden Courtyard Scene ~2013

Dear followers of my blog. It seems that yet another year has gone by without me blogging as I used to. Its mainly because I haven't been able to work as much on my dollhouse miniatures like I used to. I don't finish one big project per month as I used to but the mini bug is still inside of me :)

last year, I was able to complete two small projects and one large project. This blog is about one small one I finished last year in February.

I was going stir crazy and needed to work on a mini project. My real life bathroom was being revamped and my home was a mess. I also deal with pain in my upper back arms and right hand. So I started with a small corner yard scene because those of you who follow me know the story of how I LOVE doing yards scenes and why. I used Creative paperclay to create the stucco and stones. I created some of the flowers by hand.

I had such a fun time doing it!! It's 1" scale and it has grooves in so that a plexiglass covering could be added to it. Before I had a chance to put it up for sale, it sold after posting pictures of it on Facebook. Here is pictures of that scene.

Thank you for taking the time to read and view my blog! I am still surprise and flattered by amount of "hits" this blog still get and the emails regarding this blog. Thank you all for that! ~ Tracy Topps

Brimbles Dollhouse Kit Village Shoppe 2012

I am just about finished working on a Village Shoppe for a client of mine. I am so excited about it because this was a project that I turned out loving at the end. My customer wanted a sage green house with dark green trim and she wanted dark wood on the insides. She mentioned she wanted the house to have siding and brown stucco and at first, in my minds eye, I could see this house, even before it was built!

I assembled the house pretty quickly. When I moved on to the outsides of it, I found myself stuck and no longer feeling the house. I was a little bit ill this past fall up until about November or so of last year and though I worked on this house slowly, I still could not really get into the house.

I even thought about refunding the down payment because I did not think I'd ever finish this house. I know when I don't "feel" the house, it's all downhill after that. Last month (Actually, the end of January, I was sitting in front of the TV and looking at my work island at this house and saw right away what my problem was! My customer wanted a sage green house. Do you know how many SHADES there are of sage green? I had 7 samples on my island. I finally picked one and found I still was NOT happy with it. I also did not like the dark brown I used for the stucco. That is when I decided it was time for me to mix paint again to create my own blend of paint. Once I did that, I was amazed how changing the shades of paint (even though just a little bit) made this house more pleasing to my eyes and I was able to finish this house more quickly.

The paint color to the left of the screen is the color this house originally was. The top too dark and the bottom too light. The right side shows the color I changed it to:

The best part was, not only was I happy with the color but my client was too and that made me feel Wonderful inside!

The next time you fall out of LOVE with a project, it may not be the "house" itself. It just may be something as simple as the color of your paint!

Soon as I get the doors (I broke one side accidentally) and add the last 4 pieces of trim, I'll upload more inside shots.

Thank You for stopping by to view my blog!

1" Scale Roombox or Display Box Dollhouse Scenes

I have loved creating dollhouse miniature scenes in shadowboxes or room box settings for years. I am almost finished with the Brimbles that I started on this summer and sometimes, when my creativity is overcharged, I do other small projects along the way and I find so much enjoyment creating a setting in a roombox or shadowbox.

I have been excited to share with you all the new display box creations I have been making. I have tried to fit a lot of the elements that I would normally put in my dollhouses, in these miniature scenes and I try and leave enough space so that the buyer can add their own things to each scene.

These are perfect for the person who don't have a lot of space in their homes for dollhouses. I have even sold a few to people who are not miniature collectors at all but just love art.

I have a three pictorial sneak peeks of one that will be available soon for sale. It's unpainted in these shots but, you can see some of the cool elements added to this scene.

Here are a few of some of the ones I have done in the past:

Thanks for viewing my blog today!! I will start blogging the Brimbles dollhouse build this week too.

Yesterday was the deadline for anyone to submit their entries to the Greenleaf Spring Fling contest 2011! Here are a sample of a few submissions this year. Because of my position with Greenleaf, I have never entered a contest with them though I must say, this years kit really talked to my creative side!! I am so proud to be a member of such a talented group of Online Dollhouse Miniature enthusiasts. The above picture is the kit for this years contest. McKinley Dollhouse Build Blog (Electricity)

Adding Electricity
I used a mixture of hard wire and tape wire to light up this house. Because this house has a flat back and will hang on the wall, I fed all of the wires to the back of the house by clipping off the plugs and feeding it through holes that I drilled into the back of the house.
After that, I added a 11" strip of tape wire and took the plastic cover off of the tape wire. Next, took the wire and split the two wires about half inch down and then added one side on each side of the tape. Do not let the two exposed hardwire touch each other when you lay them down. I then took some masking tape and tacked it in place so that I could do all of the wires this way. Once all wires were added, I then took my soldering iron out to heat it and while it was heating, I added soldering flux (just a little touch) to the exposed wires (All of them) so that the solder will adhear to the wires to the tape wire.
After that, I add some solder to the tip of my soldering iron and then to the exposed wired to affix it together. I do this to all exposed wires. Here are the pictures to help you with the visual side of the instructions

After that, you can remove the little pieces of masking tape you use to help tack down the wires and keep them in place while you solder them in.

After that, I taped down all of the loose wires and labeled which room each wire it for. You can also add more lights & outlets to this later on if you like.

Now, all you need to do is add the Junction Splice and put one prong on each side of the tape wire. Then you add your transformer lead in wire and transformer and You have Electric!

It really is simple to do. Don't over complicate things by thinking too hard.Remember, if you have more questions feel free to ask in the comment section.

Coventry Cottage Dollhouse Build Blog Day 1 & 2

The following blog is of the Coventry Cottage created by Greenleaf Dollhouses. It is a really cool kit and is very versatile. If you can visualize something in you minds eye, you can create it. This house inspired me to add or change things that are not on the box cover. I built this kit and did this blog back in the Spring of 2006. Follow along with me as I build this kit!

Looking for Ideas Day 1 Part 1

Well, I have had this in the box for about 3 weeks and I keep changing my mind on how I want this one to be done. My first thought was to try to tole paint it similar to the one Sally Eckel did for Greenleaf. There used to be a decorating packet by her that shows you how to create your own original like hers pictured below.

Then I decided that I wanted to create a tower where the porch is at. But, as with all of my projects,  they seem to sometimes have a mind of their own. I hope you enjoy following me on this new journey of creating & Bashing (dollhouse editing)  a Coventry cottage. I hope to inspire everyone and encourage you so that you can see that you can make YOUR Dollhouse Dream House different from the one that appears on your kit box.

Last night was the first day I had to finally get started on my Coventry Cottage. I was still thinking to myself, "Will I have a tower, if so how can I make the adaptions quickly since I have only a limited amount of time to work on this one." I have been reading the instructions trying to come up with ideas and decided last night it was time to start the build.

I Love this kit and this will be my third time building it but my first time bashing it. This kit is fun and it sort of lock together. Greenleaf made a couple houses that has this same interlocking system such as the Cantebury and the Story Book Cottages. The tabs on some parts are longer and helps to create the "raised" foundation.
Here is the first step showing the front wall.

See the long tabs? It is so important to slide this as far as you can because it can mess up the entire alignment of the house (roof and all  )

It is very good to glue it when you are directed to glue it in the instructions so that you will not have any shifting . This is the center wall that locks into place.

This house has one Small tricky part and it is locking the second floor in place. These instructions are updated because the picture in the instructions is MUCH more clear on what to do and how to do it. Here are a couple of pictures of how this is done.

This one shows the right wall:

Day 2 Bay Windows

I started on the Bay Windows. I have also decided to add an extra room to and omit the porch. I created a wall in the front that will have the front door.

This house has one BIG tricky part and it is with the bay windows. It is almost impossible to assemble it with out breaking a part. You can glue it back together and it will be almost as good as new. Don't panic if this happens  . Every time I have built this kit and the Storybook Cottage, I break one of the window sills or another part of the bay window structure. A little glue and a lot of sanding afterwards and you'll have a smooth finish that does not show the break. ;)

In the picture below, I was thinking about adding a false wall on the side that opened up so that you could see the hallway.

Well, after looking harder and also building it, my mind started thinking something else. I closed the wall up and open up the kitchen wall

I will be adding paper clay to this house too.

Thank you for stopping by to read my blog!
